Project Summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU APL) Building 201 project includes the construction of a 263,000 square foot, four-story building providing flexible laboratory and office space in a highly collaborative, open workplace environment. The building will be home to the Research and Exploratory Development Department (REDD), an innovative and creative organization at the heart of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory’s current research and development team. The Applied Physics Laboratory works closely with the federal Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, the National Security Agency and NASA providing solutions to problems of national and global significance.

Labs and offices in the building are centered around a four-story atrium that lets in natural light and offers open space for scientists of different fields to collaborate. The building includes open and closed laboratories, offices, a 200-person conference room, a second conference room with break-out areas, STEM education facilities, a coffee shop, as well as a 200-seat auditorium.
