The Pavilion Additions for Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP) nearly doubled the size of the existing hospital, as well as providing underground parking for over 400 vehicles. The parking garage located adjacent to the hospital’s entrance was dug to a depth of 60 feet, and over 100,000 cubic yards of shale was hauled away from the site. In preparation for the newly expanded critical care services, state-of-the-art surgical suites, increased capacity of the emergency department and the addition of 120 new single, patient rooms; the modern emergency power generators, telecommunication, and data infrastructure were installed to facilitate the smooth removal of existing, outdated infrastructure of copper wires and fiber circuits. All construction had to be performed while working in an existing critical facility with minimal impact on the hospital’s ongoing operations. Throughout the development of this project, close communication between Rosendin’s Network Services Group and the hospital’s IT department was necessary to ensure a logical and safe transition to the existing critical healthcare system.
