Tempe, AZ (April 30, 2021) – Rosendin, the nation’s largest employee-owned electrical contracting company with a regional office in Tempe, set out to change perceptions about the construction industry among East Valley teenagers. They teamed up with Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP) to speak with students during Eastmark High School’s Career Fair, held on campus April 29.
Rosendin and AP representatives talked with Mesa students about how technology has changed the construction industry to level the playing field for people interested in building large scale projects like hotels, schools, hospitals, and light rail. They explained how they use computer modeling, Virtual Reality, 360-degree cameras, and drone technology to plan projects, and described how high-tech tools and safety equipment make building jobs more accessible to everyone.
“We also talked with students about training opportunities with the electrical apprenticeship program that teaches people to become a skilled craftsman in a highly specialized industry with structured, hands-on learning through the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and NECA (National Electrical Contractors Association),” said Candace Barrier, Rosendin Operations Manager.
“A lot of students we speak with are surprised how reliant construction management is on new and developing technologies,” said Scott Salyer, Regional Manager for AP. “When they find out how their interest in technology can contribute to the creation of awe-inspiring real estate, it definitely makes them see a career in construction as an exciting option.”
Dozens of companies participated in Eastmark High School’s Career Fair that focused on the school’s Academies of Business/Leadership, Fine Arts/Media, Medical/Social Health, and STEM.
