Rosendin Celebrates 100 Years of Excellence with Black Tie Event

SAN JOSE, CA - One of the oldest companies in San Jose celebrated a century of achievement with a black- tie gala featuring the area’s biggest developers and builders. Rosendin Chairman/CEO Tom Sorley and other top executives hosted San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Councilmember Lan Diep, and key industry partners at San Jose’s City Hall Rotunda.

The formal event on April 27 acknowledged the shared success of Rosendin employees and customers who made the local company’s longevity possible. The guest list included Lou Rosendin and other members of the Rosendin family. Lou, along with his brother Ray, were sons of founder Moses Rosendin.

“My father started Rosendin Motor Works in a small metal building behind our house and a basement where the accounting was done by my mother. It eventually became a whole family experience,” said Lou Rosendin. “My father was a man of his word. Even if he took a loss on a job, he would complete the work because relationships were extremely important to him.”

Lou and Ray Rosendin carried on their father’s legacy and established Rosendin as a successful local commercial electrical contractor in the 1960’s. In 1991, they sold the company to the employees, making Rosendin 100% employee-owned by 2000.

The year 2019 marks 100 years in business for Rosendin, the electrical contracting industry’s largest employee-owned firm. Rosendin has grown tremendously since 1919, with revenues of over $2 billion. No longer a small family company, Rosendin has nearly 6,000 employees across 15 regional offices nationwide, each offering an increasing number of services.

“For 100 years, Rosendin has created a reputation for building quality electrical installations, building value for our clients, and building people within the company,” said Sorley. “Our shared goals have led to shared success since 1919.”

Rosendin is celebrating its centennial throughout the year with a variety of events and campaigns. This includes a look at “100 Empowering Events” that shaped the company and will be sharing those events online with #Rosendin100 and #SharedSuccess1919. Celebrations also feature a restored Ford Model T truck, similar to the ones used when the company first began as Rosendin Electric Motor Works in 1919.
