The UCSF Smith Cardiovascular Research Building (CVRB) is a six-story lab and office building totaling 232,000 square feet. The 1st floor comprised of a clinic, offices, MRI area and lab support facilities. Labs are located on floors 2, 3, 4, with some office space. A vivarium is located on the 5th with mechanical space on the 6th floor. Because the CVRB project was design-build, the budget and design processes ran parallel, allowing cost reduction possibilities to be realized in real-time.
Rosendin Electric handled the design build process in-house. Project engineers and designers worked in a “big room” environment to coordinate directly with the other trades.
Total electrical value at completion was $20.6M and the project received LEED® Gold status.
